Cabo San Lucas Bachelorette Party: The Plan

September 21, 2026 · 11 min read

Cabo is the easiest bachelorette in Mexico to plan and the easiest one to get wrong, because two of its rules are invisible. Drinking on the beach is illegal. And the harbour can close overnight, which cancels every boat in town without warning.

The short answer

A bachelorette party in Cabo San Lucas wants three or four nights based on Medano Beach, so you can walk home. One boat day under the Arch, one beach club, one big night downtown. A private catamaran for a group of twenty runs about 1,300 to 1,750 USD for the whole boat. Book the water day early in the trip, because the port closes for weather more often than anyone expects.

We book charters out of Cabo San Lucas marina, so we watch the port status the way other people watch the weather app. Everything below is published, sourced and checked.

Cabo is one of the three destinations in our guide to a bachelorette party in Mexico, and it is the easiest of the three to actually run.

What the whole weekend costs, with the fees included

These are published rates, and the right-hand column is the reason the final bill never matches the spreadsheet.

The two Cabo rules nobody puts in a guide

One: you cannot legally drink on the beach. Alcohol in public places, including the sand, is against the law in Los Cabos and open container rules are enforced on Medano and Lover’s Beach by municipal authorities. Drinking is legal in licensed areas: bars, beach clubs and the resort’s own stretch. So the cooler of seltzers on the sand, which is in roughly every bachelorette itinerary online, is the one plan that can end with a fine. Rent the loungers at a beach club instead and the same afternoon becomes entirely legal.

Two: the port closes. In heavy surf or high wind the Capitania de Puerto shuts Cabo San Lucas harbour to every vessel under 500 gross tons. Sunset cruises, snorkel trips, water taxis and fishing charters all stop until the all-clear, and there is no public tracker that tells tourists in advance. It is usually a day, sometimes less.

This is why the boat goes early in the trip, not on the last morning. A closure on day one still leaves you two more days to sail. A closure on your final day leaves you with a story about the day you did not go. Worth knowing too: most Mexican operators handle a port closure with a credit toward a reschedule rather than a refund, because the boat was ready and the government said no.

The boat day, priced properly

One Cabo operator publishes its whole rate card by group size, which is rare enough to be worth building your day around. On a 70-foot catamaran, a three-hour snorkel cruise is 1,100 USD for up to ten guests, 1,500 for eleven to twenty and 1,750 for twenty one to thirty. The two-hour sunset version is 910, 1,300 and 1,550 across the same brackets.

Included: crew, unlimited open bar, snorkel gear, music, and whale watching from November through March because the whales show up on their own schedule and nobody charges extra for them. Excluded: a 5 USD per person marina fee, which that operator publishes and most do not.

For a smaller group a private yacht makes more sense than a catamaran. Published Cabo rates start around 790 to 1,050 USD for eight to ten guests, with departures usually at 9am, 12:30pm and 4:30pm. Across the market, expect marina fees, crew tips and tax to add roughly 10 to 15 percent to whatever the boat costs. Tips are cash, in an envelope, to the captain, who splits it with the crew.

Two routes are worth naming. The Arch, Lover’s Beach and Pelican Rock loop is the standard and it is standard for good reason. The sunset cruise is the cheapest boat on the list and the one that ends up on everyone’s phone. If your dates are between mid-December and mid-April, the whales are there too.

The water taxi warning. If you skip the charter and take a panga to the Arch instead, the fair price is around 20 USD a head. Vendors on Medano routinely open at 40, 50 and sometimes 60. Agree the price and the pickup time before you get in, take a photo of the boat, and if you are being dropped at Lover’s Beach do not pay the full fare until you are collected. Access to Lover’s Beach has also been restricted at times in 2026 after a sandbar formed under the Arch, so ask whether you can actually get off the boat before you buy the ticket.

Beach clubs, brunch and the rooftop

Cabo beach clubs mostly work on minimum spend rather than a door price, and two of the best-known will not tell you the number until you ask.

Bagatelle runs 11am to 1am daily, beach club by day on the Medano sand and a dinner-show restaurant at night, with a Sunday brunch that is the standard bachelorette booking. Parties of six or more need a card to hold the table. One group who did it wrote up the lesson afterwards: book later than you think. They took 1pm, arrived before the room filled, and spent an hour at a party that had not started yet.

SUR Beach House and Taboo both work on minimum consumption applied as credit against your bill, and neither publishes the figure anywhere we can find. Ask when you reserve and get the number in writing. Nikki Beach appears in nearly every guide still online and is currently closed for a rebuild, so do not plan a day around it without checking first.

Corazon is the practical one for a group not staying there: an 800 peso day pass that comes back in full as a food and drink credit, 9am to 7pm, beach club and cabanas included. Its Rooftop 360 charges no entry for the rooftop parties, with a 50 USD per person minimum on pool access.

And for the sunset that costs nothing, the Baja Brewing rooftop sits on the seventh floor above Medano. Arrive about 45 minutes before sunset. Arrive at sunset and you will watch it from the stairwell with everyone else who read the same tip.

Where to stay, and why Medano wins

Medano Beach and downtown is the only genuinely swimmable beach in Cabo San Lucas and the only walkable nightlife. The marina, the bars and the tour departures are all on foot. For a group that is going out, that single fact is worth more than any amenity list, because the walk home is free and always available.

The Corridor is the twenty miles of highway between the two towns. Beautiful resorts, no walkable town anywhere along it, and many of its beaches are not swimmable because of the undertow. Every night out becomes a 20 to 40 USD taxi each way, twice.

A villa in Pedregal gives you space and a pool and absorbs noise a hotel will not. The trade is honest and one group put it plainly after doing it: the neighbourhood is not walkable to downtown, and their villa was about 45 minutes from the airport. Budget a vehicle for every single outing, and ask the concierge in advance about vendor passes if anyone is bringing decorations in.

San Jose del Cabo is quieter, prettier and closer to the airport, and it is 35 to 50 USD in a taxi from the nightlife. It is a lovely place to spend a bachelorette party if what your group wants is a spa weekend, which is a completely reasonable thing to want and worth establishing before you book.

Cabo is a desert with a marina in it. The weather is mostly theatrical rather than a problem.

Getting there, and the Uber rule that catches everyone

The airport is SJD, about 27 miles from Cabo San Lucas, 30 to 45 minutes by private transfer and longer on a shared shuttle that stops at four hotels first. A taxi is 75 to 95 USD. Shared shuttles run 18 to 40 USD a head.

An Uber can take you to the airport but cannot pick you up from it. Mexican airports are federal zones requiring plates Uber drivers do not hold, the Supreme Court upheld that in 2026, and drivers caught picking up at SJD face fines of 2,500 USD and vehicle confiscation. Arrive on a booked transfer. Leave on whatever you like.

After customs you walk into a long corridor lined with podiums and people in official-looking shirts offering free rides and restaurant vouchers. Locals call it the Shark Tank. It is not the exit, and the free thing is a timeshare presentation that runs several hours. Keep walking to the outside, where the drivers wait under numbered umbrellas.

The clock detail. Baja California Sur stopped changing its clocks when Mexico abolished daylight saving in 2022, so Cabo sits on Mountain Standard Time all year and the offset from your city moves twice a year. Check the actual time difference the week you fly rather than the one you remember, because a 9am boat is unforgiving about this.

When to go

November through April is the dry, reliable stretch. March is spring break and the most expensive month of the year. May is the value window: warm, quiet and still dry. September and October are cheapest, wettest and carry the highest cancellation risk, since hurricane season runs June to November and peaks August through October.

Whale season runs roughly mid-December to mid-April, best January through March, and it is included free on most catamaran cruises in those months. Boats are legally required to keep their distance, 60 metres for small vessels and 80 for larger ones, with no more than four boats near one whale, so an operator who promises to get you closer than that is promising to break the rules.

One date to avoid unless you want it: the Bisbee’s Black and Blue marlin tournament takes over Cabo in late October. Hotels fill, rates rise and the marina turns into a fishing event. It is genuinely great to watch and a strange week to hold a bachelorette party in.

What we see when people book

Four, and they repeat every season.

The boat goes on the last day. Then the port closes, or the flight is early, and the best part of the trip is the part that did not happen. Water day early, always.

The group buys the beach and not the beach club. Loungers, cooler, speaker, and an afternoon spent saying no gracias to a vendor every ninety seconds while technically breaking an open container law. A day bed with a minimum spend solves both problems for about what the cooler cost.

Nobody agrees the taxi fare. Cabo taxis have no meters. In-town hops are 8 to 15 USD and there is a little negotiating room, airport runs are fixed by the union and there is none. Ask the price before the doors close, and for a big group ask for a 14-seat van, which works out around 2 USD a head into town.

The card gets used for everything. Marina fees, tips, water taxis and small restaurants want cash. Withdraw pesos from a machine attached to a real bank rather than the standalone ones in marina restaurants, and when a screen offers to convert the currency for you, decline it every time.

Common questions

Can you drink on the beach in Cabo San Lucas?

No. Alcohol in public places, including the beach, is illegal in Los Cabos and the rule is enforced on Medano and Lover’s Beach. Drink at a licensed beach club, bar or your resort’s own beach section instead.

How much is a private boat in Cabo for a bachelorette group?

Published catamaran rates run 1,100 USD for up to ten guests on a three-hour snorkel cruise, 1,500 for eleven to twenty, and 1,750 for twenty one to thirty. A two-hour sunset cruise is 910, 1,300 and 1,550 across the same brackets, plus a 5 USD per person marina fee.

What happens if the port closes?

Every boat under 500 gross tons stays in. Most operators credit the payment toward a reschedule rather than refunding it, so book the water day early in the trip while you still have spare days.

Where should we stay for a bachelorette party in Cabo?

Medano Beach or downtown Cabo San Lucas, so you can walk to the bars and back. The Corridor is beautiful and turns every night out into two taxi fares. A Pedregal villa gives you space at the cost of walkability.

What is the best month?

November through April, with May a quieter and cheaper alternative. Avoid March if you would rather not share the town with spring break, and late October if you would rather not share it with a marlin tournament.

Is there an airport tax we have to pay?

Baja California Sur charges a tourist tax of 488 pesos, about 28 USD, per international visitor over 12 staying more than 24 hours. Pay it online before you travel and keep the QR code on your phone.

Book the boat first

Tell us your dates, how many of you are coming and whether you want the snorkel loop, the sunset, or a whole day out. We come back with the boats that take your group, what is genuinely included, and the marina fee written down instead of discovered at the dock.

And we will tell you honestly which day of your trip to put it on, because the harbour gets a vote.
